Welcome to our Law Update Education 2022
The education sector has bounced back strongly from the dark days of 12-18 months ago. Enrolment across all divisions- preschool, K-12 and Higher Education- is robust and record-breaking in some instances. There remains strong interest in the MENA education market. The cooling of international interest in the Chinese education market has swung the pendulum back to the attractive opportunities in MENA. We remain very bullish about the key emerging markets of Egypt and Saudi Arabia and have assisted operators in moving into those markets as well as M&A activity there.
In this edition, our corporate team explores foreign direct investment in UAE education, the legalities of setting up a training institute and the status of non-profit organisations. They also look at the legal implications for e-learning platforms. Our Bahrain team has an interesting feature on setting up an EdTech App, from the founders’ perspective.
Our data team looks at the new UAE data protection law and what it means for the education sector. Our colleagues in Egypt, Oman and Qatar provide updates from their jurisdictions with a focus on investment. Our employment team looks at the new UAE Labour Law which is challenging to the existing K-12 employment model.
We hope you enjoy this edition and please feel free to share any ideas for future articles or feedback generally with me at i.mcgettigan@tamimi.com.
