Law Update: Issue 367 - Saudi Arabia & Competition Focus
Welcome to this special edition from our regional Competition & Antitrust team. The evolving landscape of competition regulation in the Arab countries indicates a shift as they adopt stringent new competition laws, moving away from their previous latecomer status. In this edition, we explore recent multijurisdictional regulatory changes, focusing on significant updates such as the New UAE Competition Law. This edition features a two-part article on UAE Merger Control (Part 1) and extends to cover aspects beyond UAE Merger Control in Part 2. Furthermore, we discuss the long-awaited issuance of the executive regulations in Egypt and offer insights into the dawn raid process in the country.
Additionally, we highlight the recent revisions to the competition law in Jordan and provide an overview of the New Amendments to Comesa Competition Regulations.
Our publication also includes a brief on Merger Control Developments in Saudi Arabia post-2023 and an overview of the application of sanctions under the Merger Control regulations in Kuwait. Finally, we explore the role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) restrictions in the context of competition.
We trust that you will find this edition insightful and engaging.
